View Full Version : Chavez tells American "gringos" to "go to hell."

President Hugo Chavez returned to his weekly radio and TV broadcast Sunday, extolling the ideals of socialist thinker Karl Marx and telling U.S. officials to "Go to hell!" for what he called unacceptable meddling in Venezuela's affairs.

Chavez defended his government's effort to establish a socialist model and rejected U.S. concerns over a measure to grant him broad lawmaking powers, saying: "Go to hell, gringos! Go home!"

The National Assembly, controlled by the president's political allies, is expected to give final approval this week to what it calls the "enabling law," which would grant Chavez authority to pass a series of laws by decree during an 18-month period.

On Friday, U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said that Chavez's plans under the law "have caused us some concern."

Chavez, who this month announced plans to nationalize Venezuela's main telecommunications company and the electricity and natural gas sectors, says the law will permit profound changes in areas ranging from the economy to defense.

Relations between Caracas and Washington have been tense since a 2002 coup that briefly ousted Chavez, who accused the U.S. government of playing a role in the putsch. The Bush administration has repeatedly denied involvement, but recognized an interim government established by coup leaders.

Criticizing excessive consumption and self-indulgence, Chavez also announced plans to raise domestic gasoline prices and approve a new tax on luxury goods such as private yachts, second homes and extravagant automobiles.

"The one who will pay is the one who fills up the BMW," Chavez said of the gasoline tax.

Frankly, that doesn't sound much different from the executive powers that Alberto Gonzales has told Bush he can exercise...

:nice: Chavez rocks. Like he is telling Dubya and the rest of those bastards to stick it where the sun don't shine! He is right too. What right does any US "leader" have to tell him how to run his country. Let Dubya and the rest of his bozos get their own house in order before they go around telling other countries how to run their affairs.

Yea, because if anybody says anything about the evil empire, the evil empire will kill them..

Not something to be proud of...

Politicians remind me of little children fighting over a toy, maybe if people actually cared about what their politicians were doing to them, they'd stop worrying about what people say in other countries.

What do you think Bush would say if Chavez took part in a coup attempt against him?

Nationalism is so retarded and childish...:not:

chavez nationalism is as well.
Im starting to loose faith in his motives, lately. sofar he hasnt done anything I cant accept, but his plans to set an endless term for presidentcy is rediculous, and his talk about how cuba is such an example worries me.

I have no problm whatshowever with is opposition to bush, btw. its fun. :) but calling american gringos, seems a bit racist? allso, this enabling act, reminds me an awfull lot of how hitler set aside the normal rules to implement a state of emergentcy, which gave him a free hand.

I'm thinking Chavez is a joke, he's probably just saying this stuff to keep seeming revolutionary. I kind of doubt he's a liberal, though.

BFD....Tack on racist as one more of his endearing qualities that the leftists on this site will ignore. Afterall, he offers hope to the People. He took on (and took over) Big Oil in his country, he has silenced the Rich and now can rule them by decree. He's a dictator for The People rather then a dictator for the Man like Bush. He can build a utopian leftist society that we can all aspire to :nice:

Show me a shred of irrefutable evidence that the CIA was involved in a coup against Chavez.

Chavez is a two-bit dictator with delusions of godhood. I honestly don't know why this crackpot gets news coverage in America. He's a nut.

I won't buy his Citgo gas anymore...even though it is usually a little cheaper.

Chavez, who this month announced plans to nationalize Venezuela's main telecommunications company and the electricity and natural gas sectors, says the law will permit profound changes in areas ranging from the economy to defense.Yeah, and I heard he doesn't plan to pay the owners (stockholders) of those companies the fair market value. He's just going to take over the companies and that's it.

For all you libs that like this guy so much...don't you think that's wrong? Don't you think it's wrong for the government to take (steal) your private property without just compensation? Well?

it might have something to do with Coup attempt and the US's quick recognition of the plotters government. I seem to remember an attempt on chavez's life too that he at least blamed on the US. It dosent really matter every aspiring dictator needs a whipping boy to blame stuff on and Bush is an easy target. You might want to look at china's investments in SA while you are at it. they are making friends and securing resources and dont give a damn about putting caveats on deals like the west.

When you're the little fish you can call out the big fish, knowing he doesn't have time to play your games...
It was his attempt at being condescending...
He also called Condi, "Missy."
He thinks he is somebody; he and Mousajmada trip off the same stuff...

Chavez [doesn't] rock(s).
The 'evil empire' is not out to 'kill' you...
And what 'people'? The US citizens, even here, never stop bitching about 'what their politicians (including bush, right?) do to them', that says to me they care...

Nationalism is so retarded and childish
Ha.

American does it everyday...they steal my money to give to the masses that wont work.....funny, its those people who vote democratic...........
Those taxes also fund your police, firefighters, emts, highways/roads, post offices, state parks...and every other govt. program alongside your evil welfare...
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are taxes under both parties...
